Doctor Who: The Edge of Reality
BBC, MAZE THEORY
David Tennant and Jodie Whittaker’s Doctors team up to help the player save reality itself…
50% experimental sound design, twisted recordings of Jodie and David and electronic experimentation, and 50% glorious orchestral players in Air Studios. An absolute pleasure to be let loose on the world of Doctor Who once more.
This was a sort of sequel-extension of the VR game, and one small silver lining of the Covid-19 cloud was the ability to bag David Tennant and Jodie Whittaker to record VO in their respective wardrobes. Far from phoning it in, they both provided top-class performances, and the introduction of David Tennant’s 10th Doctor allowed me to pay homage to some of Murray Gold and Ben Foster’s fabulous work on the show. It pretty much felt like I was walking on air for the duration of this gig. A genuine dream job that felt both surreal but also inevitable, in some strange, cosmic way.
The icing on the cake was a full session at Air Studios in London, with the finest orchestral players on the planet (and beyond) – recorded on the day by Jake Jackson, and mixed by Rich Aitken.
